How long does AliExpress shipping take to the UK?

suppliersUpdated 2026-08-17

Short answer

AliExpress Standard Shipping takes 7 to 15 days to the UK door to door, including 1-3 days of supplier processing. Cainiao Expedited runs 5 to 10 days for $2-$4 more per order. Since 2021 there is no low-value VAT exemption: consignments up to £135 have 20% VAT due at the point of sale, which is your obligation as the seller, not the courier's.

The honest numbers

7 to 15 days on AliExpress Standard Shipping to a mainland UK address. Add a couple of days for Northern Ireland, the Highlands and the islands.

The range is wide because two things vary and neither is under your control: how quickly the supplier dispatches (1-3 days, sometimes 5) and which consolidation route the parcel takes out of China. Anyone quoting a flat “10 days” is quoting a good month.

The £135 rule that catches dropshippers

This is the part that separates selling into the UK from selling into the US, and most guides skip it entirely.

Since January 2021 the old low-value consignment relief is gone. For goods located outside the UK at the point of sale:

  • Consignments up to £135: 20% UK VAT is due at the point of sale. The seller charges it at checkout and accounts for it to HMRC. That seller is you, not AliExpress and not the courier.
  • Above £135: import VAT and any customs duty are handled at the border, normally billed to the recipient unless you ship delivered-duty-paid.

The practical failure mode is predictable. You price at £29.99 with no VAT line, sell 200 units, and discover the 20% was never yours to keep. On a £29.99 product that is £5 an order — roughly the whole net margin.

Build VAT into the price from day one and put it through the break-even calculator as a per-order cost, so your break-even ROAS reflects what you actually keep.

What actually changes the delivery time

The supplier. Two listings for the identical product routinely differ by four days. Sort by order count, read the recent reviews with photos, and message the supplier before you send them volume.

The shipping line. Set per order in DSers, and the default is not always the best option. This is a one-minute check that saves a week.

Local stock. Some suppliers hold UK or EU inventory, which cuts delivery to 2-5 days. Verify stock levels before you build a campaign on it, because those listings run dry quietly.

Chinese New Year

Factories close for 2-4 weeks in late January or February, and the backlog takes another 2-3 weeks to clear. Expect 7-21 days of extra delay for roughly six weeks. Either move stock into a UK or EU warehouse in December, switch suppliers for the period, or pause spend and produce creative instead.

How to state it without losing sales

Hiding the window does not work. Stores that bury it run 3-8% chargeback rates; stores that state it plainly stay under 1%, and payment processors start asking questions at around 1%.

  • “Delivered in 7-14 working days” above the add-to-cart button
  • The same wording repeated at checkout and in your shipping policy
  • A tracking email within 48 hours, and a second update if tracking stalls past five days

Framing beats apologising: “Ships from our overseas warehouse — 7-14 working days” converts better than a bare number, because it explains the wait instead of excusing it.

When to stop using AliExpress for UK orders

Around five to ten orders a day, when refund conversations start eating your margin. The upgrade path is on the supplier comparison: CJdropshipping ships 3-6 days from its EU warehouse on stocked SKUs, and a private agent runs a 4-8 day line into the UK at 10-25% off your unit cost once you are past roughly 30 orders a day.

Related questions

Why do some AliExpress parcels reach the UK in 5 days and others take three weeks?

The shipping line, not the platform. Cainiao Expedited moves on commercial air freight and clears customs as a batch, while Saver rides the cheapest available route with consolidation stops. The supplier chooses the default, so check and override it in DSers before you launch a campaign rather than after.

Do I need to register for UK VAT to dropship into Britain?

If you are the seller of record and the goods sit outside the UK at the point of sale, you generally need a UK VAT registration to sell consignments up to £135 to UK consumers, with no turnover threshold. That is a real obligation and it is worth 30 minutes with an accountant before your first campaign, not after your first hundred orders.

This is one question out of a much longer guide. The full breakdown lives onthe supplier comparison, and you can run your own numbers in thebreak-even calculator.
